| Quick Hits: Rams Season Outlook | |
Offensively, the Saint Louis Rams ranked in the bottom half of a vast majority of the statistical categories. They couldn’t throw the ball and they couldn’t run the ball. Even with a trio of Pro-Bowlers leading the way, it just didn’t happen for them. Usually when that is the issue, it’s your offensively line and with the second overall pick in the NFL Draft, the St. Louis Rams opted to select an offensive linemen, Jason Smith to be exact, to try and improve up front. The Rams gave up 45 sacks last season and you’re not going to be able to move the ball much if your quarterback is being pressured and dropped to the ground 2 of every 3 plays you run. Without Torry Holt for Bulger to throw the ball to this season, things could get interesting. Jason Smith alone won’t be able to create running lanes and pick up all the blitzs to keep quarterback their passer on his feet, it’ll take the entire front five. Every since Orlando Pace retired, the Rams line has struggled and that has to change if the Rams have admiration of making it to the playoffs anytime soon. Defensively, while the Rams weren’t terrible, they weren’t good either. After picking Smith, they spent their next three picks selecting defensive players who they hope can help keep their QB and company out of ugly situations when it comes to field position.
