Local tight end Kyle Helbig commits to CSU

Colorado State football received a verbal commitment from Kyle Helbig of Holy Family High School in Broomfield, Monday. Currently ranked a 3-star prospect by 247Sports, the 6-foot-3, 215 pound tight end has offers listed from nine Division 1 programs, including Air Force, Army, Iowa State, Utah State and Wyoming.

In his Twitter post, Helbig thanked his family and coaches for helping him reach this point in his football career, and announced his intention to stay local.

Helbig has played a big role in the Tigers’ offense this season. In 10 games, Helbig has 60 receptions for 1,109 yards and nine touchdowns. On the ground, Helbig has 51 carries for 462 yards and two touchdowns.

Helbig and No. 5 Holy Family HS will face No. 12 Harrison HS in the first round of the CHSAA 3A State Football Playoffs on Nov. 9. If the Tigers are victorious, Helbig could square off with another CSU commit, Aidan Cullen of Palmer Ridge HS. No. 4 Palmer Ridge will play No. 13 Pueblo South on Nov. 10, and the winner will play either Holy Family or Harrison.
