K.J. Carta-Samuels named to preseason watch list
Washington graduate transfer quarterback K.J. Carta-Samuels was named to the 2018 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Watch List, the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Educational Foundation, Inc. announced today.
The award has been annually given to the nation's top college quarterback since 1987. Previous winners of the award include Peyton Manning (1997), Eli Manning (2003), Andrew Luck (2011) and most recently, Mason Rudolph of Oklahoma State in 2017.
Candidates for the prestigious award must be a college senior or fourth-year junior on schedule to graduate with their class. Criteria to be considered for the award include character, citizenship, scholastic achievement, leadership qualities and athletic accomplishments.
Carta-Samuels played in 25 games over four seasons with Washington, but is now entering his first season with the Rams.
Along with Carta-Samuels, fellow Mountain West quarterbacks, Brett Rypien (Boise State), Christian Chapman (San Diego State), Marcus McMaryion (Fresno State) and Ty Gangi (Nevada) all were named to the 2018 watch list today. Colorado's Steven Montez was named to the watch list as well.
