Rams announce 2022 game at Michigan

The Rams are headed to the Big House. Colorado State football announced on Friday that it will face the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich., on Sept. 3, 2022.

The matchup with the Wolverines will earn CSU $1.8 million. The Rams made $2 million when CSU traveled to Florida in 2018 and previously earned $1.5 million for a road matchup with the Alabama Crimson Tide in 2017.

"To get to where we want to go as a program we have to continue to test ourselves against the best programs in the country," head coach Mike Bobo said in a release. "I have a great deal of respect for the Michigan program, and to have a chance to play in one of the most iconic stadiums in the nation presents a tremendous opportunity for us."

CSU previously announced that it would travel to Pullman, Wash., for a matchup with the Cougars on Sept. 17, 2022. Wazzou will then come to Fort Collins in September, 2023.

In an effort to raise its national profile, CSU is currently slated to face 18 different Power 5 opponents over the next decade, including games against Arkansas, Colorado, Oregon State, Iowa and Vanderbilt in the next three years. In total, the Rams will play nine against the Pac-12, five against the SEC, two against the Big 12 and two against the Big Ten between 2019-2028.

CSU could potentially add more Power 5 games into the mix as well. The Rams still have a nonconference game to add for the 2021 season and have multiple openings for every season after.

One potential option is scheduling a home-and-home with CU. Both schools currently have an open spot for the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
