CSU rebounds in Day 2 of Gulf Coast Showcase

After a frustrating performance against Louisiana in the opening round, Colorado State men’s basketball bounced back to defeat Florida Gulf Coast University, 82-74 on Tuesday afternoon.

The Rams were led by Kendle Moore in the victory as FGCU really had no answers for the freshman guard. Moore hit 8-of-10 field goal attempts and paced CSU with 17 points. The rising star was much more than just a scorer though, finishing with four assists, five steals and three rebounds as well.

Along with Moore, Nico Carvacho made a huge impact on Tuesday. The ‘Big Chile’ dominated the paint, racking up 16 points and eight rebounds in 26 minutes. Foul trouble did limit Carvacho’s ability to stay on the floor in the second half, which allowed the Eagles to make things interesting. However, when Carvacho was on the floor, FGCU struggled to play around the rim.

Offensively, it was a solid showing for the Rams as a whole. CSU shot 60 percent from the floor and five different players finished in double-digit scoring figures. What really made the ultimate difference in the game were the nine steals and 19 points that the Rams were able to come away with though.

Rounding out the leading scorers for CSU, Anthony Masinton-Bonner had 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting and 6-of-7 free throw attempts. Lorenzo Jenkins made 3-of-5 3-point attempts to finish with 11 points. And Adam Thistlewood added 12 points and four rebounds as well.

The Rams will play the for fifth place in the Gulf Coast Showcase Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. MT.
