Rams win opening exhibition over CSU-Pueblo

Colorado State men’s basketball won its only exhibition contest of the 2018-19 season Saturday, handily defeating CSU-Pueblo, 87-67. In front of a home crowd, the Rams got off to a slow start, but a strong performance from freshman guard Kendle Moore helped guide CSU to victory. In his collegiate debut, Moore led all scorers with 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting.

Along with Moore, four other players made their CSU debut in the game. Adam Thistlewood (Freshman), Zo Tyson (RS Junior), Jack Schoemann (Freshman) and Sam Bannec (Freshman) each suited up in the green and gold for the first time in their careers.

It was not all good news for the Ram faithful though as both redshirt junior guard Kris Martin and senior forward Deion James each missed the exhibition. Following the 20-point victory, first-year CSU men’s head basketball coach Niko Medved confirmed to reporters that James would likely be redshirting this season after having knee surgery in the offseason. Medved also told reporters that Martin is suspended for the first five games due to a violation of team rules.

Colorado State opens the 2018-19 regular season in Fort Collins hosting Colorado Christian on Wed., Nov. 7 at 7 p.m.
