CSU volleyball set to compete in Michigan Challenge

Colorado State volleyball (4-2) will travel to Ann Arbor, Michigan for the Michigan Challenge, which begins on Friday morning.

CSU will play its seventh match of the season on Friday morning, as the Rams will face off with LSU at 9 p.m. MT at Cliff Keen Arena (University of Michigan). CSU will play a second match Friday evening against Oakland at Athletics Center O'rena in Auburn Hills, MI. The Rams will then wrap things up on Saturday evening with a high profile match at No. 20 Michigan at 5 p.m. MT in Ann Arbor.

The trio of matches presents a variety of interesting storylines, including an opportunity for CSU to increase its all-time series lead to 7-0 over LSU (2-4) and the program's first-ever match against Oakland (3-3).

The Rams and Wolverines (5-0) have become familiar with each other over the last couple of seasons, meeting twice in 2017 alone. CSU swept Michigan at Moby Arena last September and then took three-of-four sets from the Wolverines in the opening round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament last December. Whoever wins on Saturday will take a slight 3-2 advantage in the all-time series.

The Michigan Challenge will be yet another opportunity for the Rams to test themselves against Power 5 competition before conference play opens at the end of the month. CSU already defeated a pair of Power 5 opponents in last weekend's tournament at Moby Arena, in what was a solid showing for the talented young Rams team.

After losing to Cincinnati in four sets Saturday morning, the Rams responded well and bounced back to defeat Florida State in a thrilling five-set match Saturday night. CSU then defeated Texas Christian University in four sets Sunday afternoon to cap off the successful weekend against notable opponents.

This weekend's road tournament will allow CSU to face quality competition on the road, after playing the first six matches of the season in the state of Colorado and five of the matches at Moby Arena.
