The South Dakota School of Mines & Technology Hardrockers finished last season with a 16-13 record. Currently in his sixth season as head coach of the Hardrockers, Ryan Larsen, previously worked as an assistant under Ryun Williams at South Dakota. The duo helped the Coyotes transition from Division II to Division 1 competition, before Williams became head coach of the Rams in 2012.

Since taking over the program, Williams has had great success, reaching the postseason in five consecutive seasons. The seventh-year leader of the Rams is a two-time Mountain West Coach of the Year, and is one of only three CSU coaches to record at least 100 wins (136). His 81-25 record in conference play is the third-best in conference history.
